1) there are total of 8 steps in TCA cycle.
1. formation of citrate - condensation of acetyl Coa with oxaloacetate to form citrate.
2. formation of isocitrate - citrate is rearranged its confirmation by enzyme aconitase.
3. oxidation of isocitrate to alpha keto glutaric acid by isocitrate Dehydrogenase.
4. oxidation of alpha keto glutarate to Succinyl Coa by alpha keto glutarate dehydrogenase.
5. conversion of succinyl Coa to succinate by succinyl Coa synthase.
6. oxidation of succinate to fumarate by succinate dehydrogenase.
7. hydration of fumarate to malate by fumarase.
8. oxidation of malate to oxaloacetate by Malate dehydrogenase.
at the step of conversion of isocitrate to alpha keto glutarate by oxidation, results in the release of carbon dioxide and 1 NADH molecule. and in the step of citrate to succinate, there also production of 1 atp , 1 NADH and 2 molecules of CO2
2) the overall reaction is C6H12O6 + 6O2 YIELDS 6O2 + 6H2O + ENERGY. 2870 kilojoules of energy is produced for each mole of glucose. it is an aerobic catabolism of water , energy and CO2. glucose is catabolized into oxygen , water and amount of energy. it is happening by oxygen.
