1. Define distributed generation (DG) system. In your opinion, explain briefly THREE (3) reasons why distribution generation (DG) based on renewable energy sources (RES) has become more popular now.

Generation of power from small grid locally with the help of renewable energy sources and not limited to only renewable resources fir consumption of local people is nothing but distributed generation. These distributed generation may contain photovoltaic cells, fuel cell, wind energy geothermal energy etc. In this distributed generation, power plant is situated near end user and sometimes these local people also generates energy and distribute it to other people.it is also called decentralised generation system.

Conventionally centralised system was used for distribution of energy from one place to far end place which is very far away from generation pont, therefore it leads to loss of energy on transmission itself. In centralised system, from one point generation and distribution takes place and due to this there were many problems in handling and distributing. But with the help of small grid distributed generation, power grid is established near end user and therefore loss is very less and locally generated power with the help of renewable resources can be utilized and can be distributed to another premises as well. There are some reasons why DG based on renewable energy sources is more popular.

1) With the help of locally generated distributed generation by renewable energy, we can power remote and inaccessible area which was not possible with the help of centralised system. We can generate locally and distribute it to them.

2) Distributed generation contain smaller power grids therefore generation of power needs very less time, and therefore newer demand can be met instantly.

3) high peak load shortage can be reduced by using renewable energy sources and distributed generation, as we can use more number of resources for power generation locally.
