juno movie piaget fourth and final stage formal operations please elaborate
The formal operational stage of cognitive development theory of Piaget is the final stage of cognitive development. This stage begins around the age of 11 and 12 years of age when children attain the puberty and enter into their adoloscent stage of life and lasts into their adulthood stage. In this stage of cognitive development the adoloscents think abstractly, theoretically, and logically. This makes them to come with practical solution by creative thinking. Emergence of skills as deductive reasoning, logical thought, and systematic planning also occurs at this of cognitive development.
In the movie, the adoloscent female protagonist Juno, is going through a crisis, as she is pregnant. She exhibits her abstract thinking ability and logical thoughts when she decides for advertisement for couples who would adopt her unborn child. She very well knows that she is not prepared for motherhood, but she is also concerned for the future of her child. This makes her decide to go for searching right couples who could adopt her child, and give the child a good upbringing and a secure future. The way Juno thinks of Mark and Vanessa as a perfect adoptive parents for her child, also shows Juno's developing systematic planning skills, as she wants an intact family atmosphere for her child that she didn't receive, since her parents were separated. These skills of Juno makes her fit in the formal operational stage of Piaget.
