Now Thomas Cook China is online only how can it provide any product differentiation from the competition?
It is difficult for Thomas Cook China to differentiate on the basis of Physical Attributes as holiday packages tend to have similarities. The could differentiate on the basis of Service (Thomas Cook always had a good service reputation), Personnel (perhaps one of the reasons for taking on former executives and offering holidays in familiar hotels with familiar staff), Location (more related to the destinations, resorts and hotels rather than the physical location of the business) and Image (clearly Thomas Cook China thought it was worth buying the brand name.
Thomas Cook China may struggle to stand out based on physical attributes of holiday packages, but differentiation can occur through service, personnel, location, and image.
