5. An agricultural research station is trying to determine the relationship between the yield of sunflower seeds and the amount of fertilizer applied and the quality of soil (on the 10-point scale). To determine the relationship, five different fields were planted. In each field four different plots were defined. In each plot a different amount of fertilizer was used. The plot assignments for the fertilizer application were randomly selected in each field (See file Q5).

1. Based on the output tables, write down the regression equation (using the actual names of the DV and the IV) (2 points):

2. What is the value of the estimated intercept? Interpret the value in terms of amount of fertilizer, quality of soil and yield of sunflower seeds. (2 points).

3. What is the values of the estimated slope for the variable “Quality of soil”? Interpret the value in terms of actual names of IVs and the DV. (2 point).

4. What is the values of the estimated slope for the variable “Pounds of fertilizer”? Interpret the value in terms of actual names of IVs and the DV. (2 point).

5. Does Quality of soil significantly influence the Yield of Sunflower at the alpha level of 0.05? Make sure to show which values you use to make the decision (2 point).

6. Does Pounds of fertilizer significantly influence the Yield of Sunflower at the alpha level of 0.05?  Make sure to show which values you use to make the decision (2 point).

7. If we keep the Amount of fertilizer unchanged, how will the Yield of sunflowers change if we decrease the Quality of soil by one unit? (2 points).

8. If we keep the Quality of soil unchanged, how will the Yield of sunflowers change if we decrease the Amount of fertilizer by five units? (2 points).

Monroe County is trying to determine where to place the county fire station. The locations of the county’s four major towns are as follows: (10, 20), (60, 20), (40, 30), and (80, 60) (see Figure 7.50). Town 1 averages 40 fires per year; town 2, 25 fires; town 3, 20 fires; and town 4, 30 fires. The county wants to build the fire station in a location that minimizes the average distance that a fire engine must travel to respond...

A warehouse is trying to determine whether they should purchase or lease a pallet wrapping station. If the warehouse buys a pallet wrapping station, it will cost $7,000 and will be depreciated as 7-year MACRS property. It would have negligible salvage value at the end of its useful life. Alternatively, the company could rent a pallet wrapping station for $700 per year with payments due at the end of each year. The operating costs and maintenance costs for the pallet...
