Natural Selection!
Explain using this words "pre-existing in a population" between
silent, missense, nonsense, and frameshift mutations.
Explain difference between silent, missense, nonsense, and frameshift mutation and include pre-existing variations in a population in the explanation?
Evolution is the process where organisms change over time. Mechanism of evolution is natural selection in which heritable pre existing traits in the population that help them to survive and reproduce help them to be more common in that population over time.
New variations are created in the population by recombination and mutations. New variants are created in population only when pre existing variations in the population recombine. Mutations like silent, missense, nonsense and frame shift mutations can lead to various genetic variations.
Silent mutation happens when a wrong nucleotide is added while replication or transcription but it doesn't change the final protein product that is produced. The mutation leads to the incorporation of same amino acid.
Missense mutations leads to the incorporation of wrong nucleotide in a way that it changes amino acid thus changing the final protein product.
Nonsense mutations leads to the incorporation of incorrect nucleotide leading to the production of a stop codon thus hindering the transcription process leading to a truncated protein product.
Frame shift mutation happens when a extra nucleotide/nucleotides are inserted or deleted which leads to a change in the reading frame of the codon leading to the production of an entirely different protein. This leads to variations of larger scale.
