Q3:There is always adverse effect of fossil fuels on
the environment.Discuss various environmental impact of
combustible materials.
The world is presently confronted with the twin crisis of fossil fuel depletionand environmental degredation.Traces of metals are presented in fuels like lead, arsenuc, cadnium, cobult, copper .During combustion ,these metals are emitted to the atmosphere.Emissions from oil combustion are composed of carbon dioxide and water.Other gaseous emissions from combustion include sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxides etc. Some of thsese pollutants react in atmosphere giving rise to other pollutants like ozones, sulfates and nitrates.Due to this, several non health impacts are observed. These effects are mainly by acid deposition, effects on vegetation, alteration of atmospheric visibilty, increased turbidity in the atmosphere, and damage to materials. Many historical monuments are very badly affected due to some corrosive matters present in the atmosphere.
Combustion of fossil fuels also effect human health. The main toxic gas in combustion is carbon monoxide.Other toxic gases presents are sulphur duoxide, ammonia, nitrogen oxide etc. These cause eye and nose irritation, mild skin burn to inceration, ablation of tissues etc.Asthma is one of the major diseases occur due to combustion of fossil fuel.Suffocation and hyperthermia are another two major disease caused by these poisonous gases.
Poisonous gases present in atmosphere due to combustion of fossil fuel aslo affect the animal and aquatic life. The effects of pollution on fresh water species are registerd in the loss of many species. Some gases which are responsible in harming aquatic life are chlorine, ammonia, mithane etc.The water becomes polluted and fish become contaminated.
Global warming is increasing day by day due to fossil fuels. It is caused primarily from putting too much carbon into the atmosphere when coal, gas and oil are burnt. These gases spread around the planet like a blanket keeping in solar heat that would otherwise radiated out in the space.
