You have the chance to rewrite one of the Constitutional Amendments, not including the 2nd Amendment. Which amendment would you choose and why? What changes would you make in rewriting this amendment? How would this affect the day-to-day lives of U.S. citizens and residents today?
I would choose the first amendment. The first amendment gives the citizens of The United States of America, the freedom of religion , speech and assembly.
I would suggest changes to the first amendment so as to limit the funds raised and spent for political speeches and campaigns ;currently the freedom to do so falls under the freedom of speech category of the first amendment. This change in the amendment would give power to the Congress to limit the contribution of funds towards elections as well as the limit on spending by the electoral candidates.
Because, if there was no restriction on the spending limit, then an individual with sufficient funds can purchase a news channel or blog and publish sufficient stories favoring a particular candidate and thus influencing the election results. This change will limit the amount of unaccounted money in the political system.
As a result of the limit on funds spent during elections, citizens and residents can look forward to having unbiased polls and elections whose results are free from the influence of money. Also, getting huge amounts of money out of politics will reinforce democracy in the country. As a result of which, people can elect leaders who would envision a good future to the people of the country.
