In an effort to understand test anxiety better, an educational researcher attempts to operationalize anxiety by informing subjects that completing a task in the time limit is required if the subject is to receive a reward. Each subject receives four sets of 10 simple calculation problems. Each set imposes a more stringent time requirement than the one preceding after which anxiety is gauged. Anxiety scores for 8 subjects are as follows:

  1. Does anxiety appear to be related to time limits?
  2. Where are the significant differences?

Solutions

Expert Solution

We have run this problem in MINITAB and get the output as one way ANOVA as

H0: all time has same mean

vs

H1: atleast 1 time has different mean

a) Does anxiety appear to be related to time limits?

the p-value for the test is 0.066>0.05 hence we will accept H0 at 95% confidence and we will say all means at different level of time are same.

b) since there is no difference in Time we say that the means are equal at 95% confidence. Though I did the Tukey's test to check for equality,

Hence all means are equal

You are running a series of statistical tests in SPSS using the standard criterion for rejecting a null hypothesis. You obtain the following p values.             Test 1 calculates group differences with a p value = .07.             Test 2 calculates the strength of association between two variables with a p value = .50.             Test 3 calculates group differences with a p value = .001. For each test below, state whether or not you reject the null hypothesis. For each test, also...
