In tannery industry mostly leather is produced from animals skin by using acids and other chemicals. So the waste from tannery industry mostly includes acids, chemicals and salts, organic wastes like animal skins etc.

Harmful impacts of disposing untreated tannery waste in wadi are as follows :-

* The primary waste in tannery influent is organic matter which requires oxygen to get decomposed by microorganisms so the dissolved oxygen from the wadi will be depleted in decomposition of organic wastes leading to deficiency of dissolved oxygen which will create severe problem for the aquatic life.

* The tannery waste consists of harmful chemicals and acids which will increase hardness and alkalinity which is again a severe problem for aquatic species.

* The tannery influent being mostly organic causes odour problems making life difficult in the surroundings.

* The salts and chemicals present in the waste induce scum, taste and colour in the water making it unsuitable for drinking and domestic use.

* The tannery waste is highly toxic causes skin disease when water is used for external purpose only also like bathing and washing.

* It will prove disastrous for animals also who come to drink water in the wadi, will either die or subjected to a serious disease due to toxicity in the water.
