Respiratory acidosis is a condition that occur when the lungs can't remove CO2 produce by the body. Excess CO2 causes the PH of the blood and other body fluids to decrease making them too acidic. Acedosis occur when the PH of blood less than to 7.35.

Respiratory acidosis is typically causes by underling disease or condition. That is called respiratory failure or ventilatory failure.

1. Causes.

Some chronic causes are blow

1. Asthma.

2. Co obstructed pulmonary disease COPD

3. Acute pulmonary edema

4. Severe Obesity

5. Neuro muscular disorder

6. Scoliosis

Some causes are acute

1. Obstructive airways

2. Cardiac arrest

3. Sedative overdose

4. Muscle weakness that affect take breathing or deep breathing

5. Lungs disorder emphysima COPD pneumonia asthma etc

Deprssed respiratory acidosis - slow or ineffective breathing.

Hypoventilation respiratory acidosis- increase the partial pressure of arterial corbon di oxide. Paco2

Mechnical respiratory acidosis - Mechnical ventilation when not properly adjusted or supervise may result respiratory acidosis

Obstructive respiratory acidosis - hypercapnia is more or severe complication seen in patient with copd in advance phase may result obstructive respiratory acidosis

2. Sign and symptoms

Headache. Anxiety. Blurred vision. Restlessness. Confusion. Sleepiness fatigue lithargy. Delerium coma shortness of breath.

Personality changes sleep disturbance memory loss.

Dizziness. nausea. Disorentation.

Tremors. High or low blood pressure

Bluish skin. seizures. Apnea. Rapid heart rate

3. Intervention.

Blood gas measurment

Electrolytes measurment

Lungs function test

Chest xray

Other test

NURSING INTERVENTION.

Administer oxygen.

Encourage deep breathing and coughing

Suction

May need respiratory treatment

Hold respiratory depression drugs

Check pottasium level for hyperkalamia

Administer antibiotic drugs for infection

We need endotracheal intubation if co2 level rise avobe 50mmhg or respiratory distrss present

Broncho dialator for expand the airway

Cortico steroid to reduce inflammation

Mechanical ventilation in severe cases
