How does the structure of classroom influence what happens in the classroom

A structured classroom often translates it to a safe classroom ,one where students can enjoy themselves and focus on learning. In a structured learning enviornment students are more likely to achieve and experience personal and academic growth.Classroom setup can dramatically affect student's attitude towards the habits of learning. A classroom that is friendly, comfortable and colourful creates a very positive enviornment for students to learn.

Improving student achievement is vital for the nation's competitiveness.Scientific research shows that the physical classroom enviornment influences student's achievement.

The buiding's structural facilities or layout profoundly influence learning. Inadequate lighting, noise, low air quality and temperature inside the classroom are significantly related to worse student achievement.

The most commonly reported structural inadequancies may include improper windows, plumbing, poor temperature regulation or vantilation lighting and acoustics ( property and quality of classroom that determine how sound is transmitted in it. ).All these will affect the student's learning ability.

Students exposed to more natural light in their classroom perform better than students exposed to less natural light.

Excessive external noise hinders learning.Eg:- If school in the flight path of a mojor airport, exposed to traffic sounds etc.

Classroom should be adequately ventilated.Studies shows thst the optimal temperature for learning appears to be between 680 and 740.

Exposed to low quality air or pollution will affect both the students and teachers health resulting in low attendance of students and teachers ability to teach well.

In case of disabled children they need quiet atmosphere(in case of hearing disability),presence of ramps, elevators, automatic door openers etc. Desks, chairs and other objects that suiable for students with physical disabilities is needed to help them to participate in class activities.

Studies in Psychology and Education reveals that symbolic features such as objects and wall decors influence student's learning ability and achievement.Symbol inform the students that they are valued learners and belong within the classroom and it has far reaching consequences for student's educational choices and achievements. These symbolic features powefully affect classroom culture and even shapes student's aspirations.Sense of ownership of their classroom will definitely affect the student's ability to learn.
