There are several reasons which create importance of African Studies as a general course. Some of the reasons are as following:-

1. If we understand the African History then we can easily understand the world history. World history remains connected with African continent in many ways.

2. Modern American history is also somewhat related with African history.

3. There is a relationship between American independence and African history.

4. Study of African History helps in understanding formation of new nations.

5. We also come to know about the African resources which we use in our daily basis.

6. It also helps in understanding that how trans Atlantic slave trade helped in strengthening of economical foundations of America.

African people are present in many American communities. If we study African culture and history then only we can establish a harmonious relations with those people. Study of African culture and history helps in our development as a global citizen.
