Discuss how chemical substances may interfere with metabolic enzymes

Solutions

Expert Solution

Chemical substance will interfere the activity of enzymes. The chemical can act as the inhibitor and it may result in the binding of chemical with active site of enzyme or enzyme substrate (ES) complex. It might bring changes in the 3 dimensional structure or confirmation of enzymes. There are different types of inhibition such as competitive inhibition ( chemicals will be similar to the structure of substrate) , non competitive inhibition ( Chemicals have no similarity, but will combine with enzyme),uncompetitive inhibition ( combine only with ES, not with free enzyme) and feedback inhibition ( inhibit action of enzyme by feed back mechanism). The chemicals will bring changes in the confirmation of active site of enzymes and inhibit the binding of natural substrate with enzyme or if chemicals may be similar to the structure of natural substrate and will result in binding with enzyme.Although the chemicals will interfer the natural binding mechanism of enzymes and results in the variation in metabolic activities.
