can u pls tell me how much it will cost to make 1 g of C2H5Br by using this reaction : ethane + Br2 & heat = CH3CH2BR
we have 398 grams of ethane and it costs 226.32 dollars
we have 684 grams of bromine and it costs 65.82 dollars
u can presume that we have a perfiect yeild and pls round the answer to the nearest cent
show all work pls ty
Balancing the chemical equation for synthesis of ethylbromide, 1 mole of Bromine(gas) reacts with two moles of ethane. Producing 2 moles of ethylbromide and 2 moles of hydrogen bromide
Br2 + 2 C2H6 --> 2C2H5Br + 2 HBr
Molecular weight of Carbon = 12.01 u
Molecular weight of Hydrogen ~ 1 u
Molecular weight Br ~ 79.9 u
Cost of ethane = 226.32 dollars per 398 g = 226.32/398 = 0.568 dollars per gram .
Cost per mole = 0.568* (Molecular weight of ethane) = 0.568*(30.02) = 17.05 dollars per mole
Cost of Bromine = 65.82 dollars per 684 g = 65.82/684 = 0.096 dollars per gram
Cost per mole = 0.096* (Molecular weight of Br2) = 0.096 *(159.8) = 15.34 dollars per mole
Number of moles in 1 g of C2H5Br = 1/(molecular weight of compuond) = 1/(108.92) = 0.00918 1
moles Br needed = half of 1
Moles Ethane needed = 1
Cost = Cost of ethane per mole(moles needed) +Cost of Bromine per mole(moles needed) = 17.05(0.00918) + 15.34(0.00459) = 0.07 dollars or 7 cents
