All of the following statements accurately describe antibody molecules EXCEPT (A) they contain two identical H chains (B) they contain carbohydrate (C) they contain two identical L chains (D) they are electrophoretically homogeneous
The answer to the above question is option D
Whenever the body faces a foreign antigen in the body they develop a massive amount of antibodies to kill the foreign particle.they are generally glycoproteins. A variety of particles considered as foreign by the antibodies depending on the toxicity of the particles. They are produced by B-cell and T-cell.
A typical structure of antibody contains two identical heavy chains and two identical light chains both the heavy and light chains are joined together with the help of disulfide bonds. All the immunoglobins contain carbohydrates at the heavy chain but in the case of immunoglobulins IgA and IgD they also contain carbohydrates at the hinge region also.
There are five types of Immunoglobins
IgG | Maximum in number (80%) |
IgM | 6% |
IgA | 13 % |
IgD | <1 % |
IgE | <1 % |
Antibodies are both electrophoretically homogenous and heterogeneous. Immunoelectrophoresis is done to check are homogeneity of antibodies where their movement shows the nature of antibodies but when is comes to antibodies molecules they are heterogeneous because they contain a different chain of alpha, beta, and gamma which makes them electrophoretically heterogenous.
