Calculate ??/2 for each of the following. Illustrate your answers with graphs.

a. ? = 0.10

b. ? = 0.01

c. ? = 0.05

d. ? = 0.20

Solutions

Expert Solution

Solution :

Given that,

a ) At 90% confidence level the z is ,

= 1 - 90% = 1 - 0.90 = 0.10

/ 2 = 0.10 / 2 = 0.05

Z/2 = Z0.05 = 1.645

b ) At 99% confidence level the z is ,

= 1 - 99% = 1 - 0.99 = 0.01

/ 2 = 0.01 / 2 = 0.005

Z/2 = Z0.005 = 2.576

c ) At 95% confidence level the z is ,

= 1 - 95% = 1 - 0.95 = 0.05

/ 2 = 0.05 / 2 = 0.025

Z/2 = Z0.025 = 1.960

d ) At 80% confidence level the z is ,

  = 1 - 80% = 1 - 0.80 = 0.20

/ 2 = 0.20 / 2 = 0.10

Z/2 = Z0.10 = 1.282
