12. Calculate the atomic percentages for each of the following compounds.

HfO2

BeCl2

Ti(OH)4

FeO

SiO2

B(OH)3

Solutions

Expert Solution

Calculation of Atomic Perentages:

Atomic Percent = (Ni/Ntotal)*100% where Ni are the number of atoms of interest and Ntotal are the total number of atoms

HfO2: Atomic Percent of Hf= (1/3)*100%=33.33%

          Atomic Percent of Oxygen (O) = (2/3)*100%= 66.67%

BeCl2: Atomic Percent of Be = (1/3)*100%=33.33%

Atomic Percent of Chlorine (Cl) = (2/3)*100%= 66.67%

Ti(OH)4: Atomic Percent of Titanium (Ti) = (1/9)*100%=11.11%

  Atomic Percent of Oxygen (O) = (4/9)*100%= 44.44%

Atomic Percent of Hydrogen (H) = (4/9)*100%= 44.44%

FeO: Atomic Percent of Iron (Fe) = 50%

       Atomic Percent of Oxygen (O) = 50%

SiO2: Atomic Percent of Iron (Fe) = (1/3)*100%=33.33%

         Atomic Percent of Oxygen (O) = (2/3)*100%= 66.67%

B(OH)3: Atomic Percent of Boron (B) = (1/10)*100%=10%

             Atomic Percent of Oxygen (O) = (3/10)*100%=30%

             Atomic Percent of Hydrogen (H) = (3/10)*100%=30%
