In your opinion, how should organizations decide whether to keep the data in house or host it in the cloud.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Whether the organization need to store/host the data in Cloud or keep it in-house depends up on the following factors.

a) If the Organization is very big and having more data and is financial fit, then it may setup in-house data storage because setting up in-house storage involves lot of setup cost and maintenance cost for long run, But if organization is a small and data is also small then it can save money by hosting the data in Cloud and paying simply charges for storage.

b) Further this decision depends on the importance of Privacy of Data also, because saving the data in house is safe because it does not provide any access to third party, but clouding the data will provide data access to the third party and third party is liable to disclose the data to legal authorities and government etc.

c) The organization need to consider its location and security aspects also, because when the organization is located in remote area and there is less security available, then its better for organization to go for cloud , because the advantage of cloud is that even though physical devises are damaged also data will be safe in cloud.

d) The organization need to consider the availability of good internet connectivity also, because cloud data require continuous full speed internet to get the backup done easily, but if there is low connectivity of internet then it need to go for in-house storage only

e) Further the nature of business and the data accessibility requirements also pay an important role in taking the decision, suppose the work of the organization is spread all over in different areas and employees work in different locations need to access the data, then cloud is better than in-house, but suppose if the organization work is centralized and all employees use data in one location, then it is better for in house data.

Finally we can conclude that the decision depends up on the organization structure, nature of business, work requirement , location of organization etc and based on this the organization need to take better decision suitable for it.
