Create your own probability example of compound events please explain logic and approach. Example must be unique and easy to follow i.e. colors, numbers, age, size, etc.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Compound Event is one in which there is more than one possible outcome.

By Addition Theorem of probability, the probability of a compound event as the sum of the probabilities of individual events and if the events are not mutually exclusive, removing overlapping probabilities.

Addition Theorem:

MY OWN PROBABILITY EXAMPLE OF COMPOUND EVENTS:

Example:

A card is drawn from a pack of 52 cards. To find the probability of the card being either Red OR a Jack:

Let

A = Event that the card is Red. A consists of 26 sample points since there are 26 Red cards.

B = Event that the card is Jack. B consists of 4 sample points since there are 4 Jack cards.

AB consists of 2 sample points since there are 2 Red Jack cards.

Thus,

P(A) = 26/52

P(B) = 4/52

P(AB) = 2/52.

So,

the probability of the compound event is given by substituting in Addition Theorem as follows:

= 26/52 + 4/52 - 2/52 = 7/13 = 0.5385
