write down the classification order of ferrites
Ferrites can be classified into,
a) Spinel ferrites
b) Garnets
c) Hexaferrites
Spinel ferrites
Spinel ferrites have the formula AB2O4, where
A and B are metal cations. They have high electrical resistivity
and high magnetic permeability. They are used as data storage,
catalysts, gas sensors etc.
Eg:Cobalt ferrite (CoFe2O4), Zinc ferrite
(ZnFe2O4)
Garnets
Garnets are structurally similar to the silicate mineral garnet. It
have chemical formula R3Fe5O12,
where R is yitrium or a rare earth element. They have optical
transparency and used in magneto-optical applications.
Eg: Yitrium iron garnet
Hexaferrites
Hexaferrites are magnetically hard, can be represented with a
general formula, MFe12O19, where M can be Sr,
Ba, Pb or combinations of these. Being magnetically hard and very
stable at high temperatures, these are used in magnetic stripes and
in loud speakers
Eg: Strontium ferrite, Barium ferrite
