1. China’s One China Policy was granted formal acknowledgement by US President Jimmy Carter in 1979 as per which US shall respect China’s One policy while having normal ties with Taiwan.
The One China Policy is a keystone of Sino-US relations. It also serves as a bedrock to Chinese policy-making and diplomacy. This policy is different from the one China principle in the term that it allows US to have robust unofficial relationship with Taiwan for commercial purpose including sales of arm to defend itself. The policy however considers Taiwan to be inalienable possession of China and one day it shall reunify with China
People's Republic of China rules on mainland China and claims that Taiwan is part of its territory under its "One China Principle" which led to diplomatic isolation of Taiwan from the international community.
With the change in the policy, Taiwan is now able to indulge in trade and commercial activity as an individual country and in no manner shall be governed by Chinese government.
