consider the combustion of methane, CH4
CH4 + O2-----CO2 +2H2O

suppose 2.5 mol methane is allowed to react with 3 mol of oxygen
A) what is the limiting reactant?
B) how many moles of CO2 can be made from this mixture? How many grams of CO2?

the balance eq is :-
CH4 + 2O2-----CO2 +2H2O
moles of methane= 2.5mol
moles of O2=3mol
a)The 2.5 moles of CH4 would normally consume 5 moles of O2. We can see ,
however, that we are going to run out of O2 because there are only 3 moles
available. This means that O2 is the limiting reagent.
b) so we see that for eq.:- 1 CH4 for every 2 O2, or 3/2 = 1.5 moles
since CO2 and CH4 are in same ratio so C02 will produce 1.5 moles.
moles of CO2 can be made from this mixture= 1.5 moles
grams of CO2 produced (= 1.5 x44) = 66gm
