Explain how text and email messages as well as social media posts are both verbal and nonverbal. Explain which dominates--verbal or nonverbal?
The non-verbal cues of direct face-to-face communication includes the gestures, eye contact, proximity, haptics, facial gestures etc which are directly observed in the process of communication. In communication process where information are exchanged through the written form over internet and social media, the important forms of non-verbal communication are, the consideration of the audience that is who is reading the message, the style of formatting and presentation, correct use of grammar and punctuation, length of the message, words chosen to convey messages, and the spellings. These non-verbal cues in written messages play an important role in deciding the effectiveness of the message than the written form of the message because the reader assumes about the mood and intention of the writer through these cues and, as the writer is not present there to observed directly. If the non-verbal cues of written text messages are not addressed properly then it will ruin the importance of message, hence, the non-verbal cues have upper hand in the text, emails and in the social media posts.
