A laboratory scale experiment has been planned to
study the vortex shedding induced loading on a
structural member. For doing this, the accurate
measurements of flow velocity and vortex shedding
frequency is of prime importance. The member is
placed vertically across the flow having mean flow
velocity of 50 m/s. The diameter of the member is 5
cm. If the Strouhal number is 0.2, determine the
following:

appropriate sensor type for measurements and its
characteristics ?

vortex shedding frequency?

sampling frequency required to resolve the
frequency content?

sampling frequency necessary to reconstruct the
waveform and amplitude?

would you filter the signal before acquisition, if yes
then mention reasons?

An experiment has been initiated in a laboratory where recombinant DNA technology has been used to substitute the gene responsible for change of colour in chameleon with another gene responsible for “glowin-the-dark”. If this experiment is successful, chameleons carrying the “glow-in-the-dark” gene will not be able to change their colours any longer. Discuss the implication of these results in terms of ethics and conservation biology.

A local independent laboratory has been producing negative margins for two years. The laboratory is struggling to compete in the market with the National laboratories primarily in the area of technology. Physician’s are demanding electronic results delivered directly into their medical record and are threatening to move their business to a larger, National Laboratory that can provide this technology to the physician at no cost. Another independent laboratory has offered to provide this technology for 80% ownership in the failing...

Suppose the happiness of six teams has been measured on a scale that has a normally distributed population with a standard deviation of 3. Just for fun, you sample 33 six teams from this population and obtain a mean happiness of 23.95 and a standard deviation of 3.5006. Using an alpha value of α = 0.01, is this observed mean significantly different than an expected happiness of 22? (Two Tailed) State Null and Alternate Hypotheses. Apply test. You’re a manager at a nonprofit. Your supervisee has been a planned-giving fundraiser there for five years. Four years ago, his performance was poor because he was undergoing chemotherapy. Since then, it’s improved to average but, in the past few months has declined severely again—He’s raised only half as much money as before. He explains that his cancer has recurred and has spread to his lymph nodes, so he’s in the middle of a six-month round of chemotherapy and his...

The concept of returns to scale has been used by business managers in order to increase the production efficiency to assess the productivity of organizational inputs like labor, machinery and equipment, and even technological innovation. a. Describe the concept of returns to scale (RTS). Is it a short-run (SR), or long-run (LR) phenomenon? b. List and describe the three types of RTS. A testing laboratory has been hired by a company called “Drug Company Q” to analyze a series of over-the-counter drugs that the company produces. In these over-the-counter drugs, the active ingredient is called “Active Ingredient M.” The laboratory technician collected the following data from samples with known concentrations of the Active Ingredient M. That data is shown below in Table 2. Convert %T to absorbance (A=2-log(%T)) and prepare a Beer’s law plot using this data. Table 2. Known Concentration of...
