A man whose mass is 60 kg rides a Ferris wheel that has a radius of 20 m. The man has a scale available in the cart he is riding. If his speed during the ride is a constant 5 m/s, what would the scale read at top of the ride?
Please show your work. Thank you :)
Gravitational acceleration = g = 9.81 m/s2
Mass of the man = m = 60 kg
Radius of the Ferris wheel = R = 20 m
Speed of the man durring the ride = V = 5 m/s
Normal force on the man at the top of the ride = Reading on the scale = N
Centripetal force on the man at the top of the ride = F
The centripetal force is the net force on the man which comes from the weight of the man minus the normal force on him.
N = 513.6 N
Reading on the scale at the top of the ride = 513.6 N
