The Real World of Measurement For this discussion, select an organization (it can be an organization you work for or have worked for) as a basis for the following questions: Do you think that this company/organizations normally conducts validity and reliability assessments? Why do you believe this is true? Defend your answer by citing reliable sources. Response Guidelines Respond to the posts of at least two of your peers as to whether you agree or disagree with their positions. Use at least one outside source to defend your answer.
The company selected is IBM. This organization conducts validity & reliability assessments. Because they feel that human resources face challenges in on boarding the right talent & keeping it. They feel that career assessments can help them have an impact on the overall business. IBM feels that hiring the wrong candidate can cost them $14,900 over a year. When this happens, the employers can see a reduction in productivity & quality of work & also the time for replacing & training the misplaced employee.
Also making the validity & reliability assessments can help the organization to make the right hire, reduce attrition & turnover & also helps in developing the right talent.
Two key factors for effective career assessments are:
Validity – does the assessment truly measure what it is desire to measure?
Reliability – if there are tests given to different candidates, are the results consistent?
IBM has named a leader in the IDC market scape: worldwide model talent acquisition systems 2017 vendor assessment career assessment capabilities that help IBM with talent acquisition solutions.
The IBM Kenexa employee assessments use behavioral science techniques to measure traits, skills & fit of candidates or employees. A team of 1/10 psychologists & 30 + years of behavioral science expertise has ensured the portfolio which can complement the existing assessment solutions.
I agree with the position of the peers that whatever may be the position in the organization, validity & reliability of assessments is considered to be important both for the organization & for the employees both for the organization to acquire the right people & also for the employees to help in their career growth.
