A 6-lane two-way arterial road has a maximum flow of 6,000 vehicles per hour on one
direction. It is operating at 3,600 vehicles per hour at time, t=0. A collision occurs,
blocking the two lanes, and restricting the flow of the third lane to 1,800 vehicles per
hour. After 45 minutes, the MMDA and police have cleared the incident and traffic returns
to normal as soon as the queue has already dissipated.
a. Determine the maximum length of queue that occurred.
b. How long did it take to dissipate the queue?
c. What is the average delay per vehicle?
Show all necessary solutions and diagram.

A multilane highway has two northbound lanes. Each lane has a capacity of 1500 vehicles per hour. Currently, northbound traffic is consists of 3100 vehicles with 1 occupant, 600 vehicles with 2 occupants, 400 vehicle with 3 occupants, and 20 buses with 50 occupants each. The highway’s performance function is t = t0 ( 1 + 1.15 (x/c)6.87 ) where t is in minutes, t0 is equal to 15 minutes, and x and c are volumes and capacities in vehicle...

. A four-lane arterial (with two lanes in each direction) has a capacity of 1000 vehicleshourlane. Due to some road repair work, the maximum capacity of two lanes in the northbound direction is reduced to 1100 veh/hr from 2000 veh/hr for a short length of 200 ft. If the total traffic upstream of the repair site in the northbound lanes is reasonably at 1500 vehhr, find (a the mean speed of traffic through the repair site and (b) the stead...

A supermarket you work part-time at has one express lane open from 5 to 6 PM on weekdays (Monday through Friday). This time of the day is usually the busiest since people tend to stop on their way home from work to buy groceries. The number of items allowed in the express lane is limited to 10 so that the average time to process an order is fairly constant at about 1 minute. The manager of the supermarket notices that...

A company has one- and two-year bonds outstanding, each providing a coupon of 6% per year payable annually. The yields on the bonds (expressed with continuous compounding) are 3.0% and 3.6%, respectively. Risk-free rates are 2.5% for all maturities. The recovery rate is 35%. Defaults can take place half way through each year. Estimate the risk-neutral default probability each year.
