Given the following excess rainfall hyetograph and 1-hr unit hydrograph, what would the 5th ordinate of the storm hydrograph be in cfs? Pn (intervals of 1 hr) = [0.2, 0.4 ,0.5 ,0.2 ,0 ,0.1] in UH (intervals of 1 hr) = [0, 100, 320, 450, 370, 250, 160, 90, 40, 0] cfs

Solutions

Expert Solution

  1. We have excess rainfall which means, 0.2 in of excess rainfall has recorded in first hour and 0.4in in second and so on.
  2. Then the direct runoff hydrograph can be calculated by muliplying unit hydrograph ordinates with excess rainfall to get DRH for respective duration of rainfall.
  3. then we add these DRHs with their respective lag to get storm hydrograph.
  4. Ex. DRH of  0.2in rainfall excess added with 0hr lag, DRH of 0.4in excess rainfall added with 1hr lag and so on.
