1. Hippocrates was born on 460 BC and is considered as the founding father of medicine. His medical study was based on observations and on the study of the human body. He believed that illness has a physical and rational explanation. He rejected the belief that illness is a result of possession of evil spirits or the rage of gods. He was able to describe the symptoms of the disease accurately and became the first physician to accurately describe the symptoms of pneumonia as well as epilepsy in children. He emphasized on the importance of good diet, rest, fresh air and cleanliness. He founded a medical school on the island of Kos, located in Greece, where he started teaching his ideas. He also developd an oath of medical ethics.
2. Andreas Vesalius was a physician and the author of one of the most influential book on human anatomy. He is also considered as the founder of modern human anatomy. He believed that surgery needs to be grounded in anatomy. He would perform the dissections all by himself and produced charts on anatomical structure to his students as a reference. His greatest contribution to the modern medicine is his work on the vascular and circulatory system. He also disproved the claim that men have more teeth than women.
