Sterilised equipment for a patient with no special sterility requirements
Sterilization reference to any process that removes kills or deactivates all forms of life. There are many ways for it. In hospitals there are a specific department for the same. In hostipals sterilization reference to a process of killing organisms (which can harm human being) under a high pressure and increased temperature.
I. Indwelling catheter:- indwelling catheter is a sterile system which includes a catheter, retention balloons inverted either through the urethra or suprapubically to allow bladder drainage. As this is inserted into the internal body this should be sterile. Otherwise it can cause infection to the internal organs
II. Bed sheet:- bed sheets and all linens should be washed thoroughly to wash off the stain as it is reused. But it is not mandatory that the linen must be sterilized.
III. Urinary catheter:- urinary catheters are use to drain the urine from bladder to the urinary bag. It is a hallow, particularly flexible tube that collect urine . Thus , this is inserted to the bladder, it should also be sterile.
IV. Wound dressing:- wound dressing should be sterile as it is directly comes in contact with wound. If it is not sterile it can cause further infection and can even cause to further complications. So this also must be sterilized.
V. Blood pressure cuff:- as the blood pressure cuff is not in too much contact with the patient is not be sterilized. But, it should be cleaned even after checking bp each time.
VI. Urine bottle:- urine bottle is used to collect urine from the urine bag and to distroy it. So it is not mandatory to sterilize it . It is cleaned every time after use.
