I've noticed that there's this misconception that folks who disagree with our general classroom-perspective are considered uneducated. This includes Dennis (who rejected life-saving measures due to religious reasons) or animal rights stakeholders (like the trauma surgeon).
There's a lot of science that shows us that facts (read: education) don't help to change people's minds
Now consider the following questions for this discussion:
When talking with someone you know really well, what kind of things do you get out of that interaction? Think along the lines of empathy, understanding, companionship, feeling listened to.
How does your communication style change when trying to change someone's mind? What do you get out of being "right"? Do you think the person gets something out of being "wrong"?
What's it like to be on the other side of the conversation when someone is trying to convince you of something?
How might we try to communicate more effectively around these controversial subjects?
Answer 1) When we are communicating with someone we really know well, the already established rapport help a lot to continue with the discussion or the interaction between individuals, here because of the mutual understanding the interactions are much more deeper and comfortable, the outcomes could vary to a certain directions depending upon how much you agree or disagree with each other.
When we are trying to change someone's else mind, our tone of voice should preferably be authoratative, because it makes an impact on the listeners, and it is also very important to establish the confidence in the listeners as well. Also when we are trying to change someone's mind, we need to keep few things in consideration as well, these are as follows:
Effective Communication: How effectively you persuade others depends a lot on how powerful your communication skills are, and it helps a lot in shaping other's behavior and attitude and many a times, there opinon.
In a discussion or an interaction there are always opinions and views, one always get to learn something out of an interaction.
We might try to improve our commnications by simply improving the points mentioned above.
