A city is evaluating the benefits to be achieved by changing the level of waste collection service. The change would result in (i) reduced service to the customer, (ii) an increase in the number of houses served daily by each crew, and (iii) a cost savings that would put off a 10% collection rate increase for 1 year. The existing rate for collection service (two containers per house) is $12.5/month. List the important variables for (i), (ii), (iii) separately that must be evaluated when the change is planned. Discuss the probability for successful implementation of the change.
In order to increase the collection rate there is reduced service to the customers in order to save the cost :
variables:
A) Reduced service to the customer
1. Number of collection containers per household will vary.
2. Some household demands backyard service these type of activities will vary
3. solid waste generation per household will vary
B) Increase in the number of household served :
1. Pick up time will vary
2. Trip time will vary
3. Number of trips per day will vary.
C) Cost saving :
1.Length of working day of crew members will vary.
2. Number of working days in a week will increase.
3. container utilization rate per household will change.
The probability of successful implementation of the increased collection rate is very high just because we are cutting cost as the number of containers should be increased per house hold but it will add extra cost also. So extra number of trips will take care of that and all other parameters will be smoothly work for us if length of working day and number of working days are increased a little bit. So, the probability of implementation is very high.
