Should an engineer who has moved into a management position and is no longer directly engaged in technical work still be considered an engineer? Why or why not?
Being an engineer dosen't mean that we are entitled to do
only
technical stuff.I'm also an engineer and i can totally
understand the questions we engineers have to face for doing
any non technical thing.
The thing is to understand here is that we are not born
engineers, doctors or anything else that we become during our
lives. There are so many factors(like family pressure,
financial
situations, lack of knowledge and guidance) that makes us do
things that we have to do, although we like them or not.
But, as time passes we start to understand our potential
in
some field of work in which we are not even qualified but
deep
down we know that we can do it.
So,my answer to you is being an engineer dosen't stop you
from
doing things like management or marketing.we have the desired
knowledge and willingness for it that is why we want to do
it.!
In doing so we are still considered as engineer there is no doubt
of that ,nobody is restricted to done only one thing.
It's our choice to do or not to do so, thus engineers are always engineers.
