why is it so difficult to monitor supplier who violate labor and human rights guidelines. how can we better monitor for these violations.
NO DOUBT its way difficult to monitor supplier who violate labor and human rights guidelines, and the route cause suppose to be is "Government failure" of overseas countries, where the management capability over controlling the worst scenarios created by suppliers is very poor and there is lack in their governance system. This might be because of their Greedy politicians, corrupted financial and market system, imbalanced demand and supply functions etc. These critical points makes it much difficult to monitor suppliers who are the defaulters.
Moreover there exists a "governance gap" in global suplly chains which results in limited regulations, blured oversight of human rights and labour standards. There are many suppliers outside who never take Human right measures seriusly and never practice them effectively. Ensuring that all defaulter companies practice human rights due diligence responsibilities seriously have become extremely difficult.
For the better monitoring of these violations :
Transparency in supply chains is considered as a key
element in identifying human rights violation.
1 / Participate in monitoring processes
which are independent and verified before implementing.
2 / Participating in the working model created for
listening the needs and demand of workers
3 / Highlight failings of existing monitoring
models and spreading examples of good practices.
4 / Work to empower workers to develop
and drive forward their own oversight
and participation mechanisms
