1- How does the bandage contact area change with the
axle load? Show it by drawing.
2- Draw the stresses created by a tandem axle on the superstructure
layers by drawing them.
1) ANSWER- One of the fundamental function of pavements is the distribution of the upcoming loads. So in the design of the pavement one must be serious about the loads cimico on the pavement. There is a combi6 of the loads coming on the pavement , these are given below
1.Tire loads
2. Axle loads / tandem axle loads
3. Loads due to the vehicle high speed.
The contact bandage areas are get commutate due to these loads because these loads are repettirep in nature. So over the life time of a pavement the damages or the bandages caused by these axle loads can't be prevented but there are some precaution that can be taken to overcome these problems. The damages or the bandages caused by the axle loads when reaches their maximum value then the contact damaged area get spread widely and adversely affect the pavement .
2) ANSWER- first of all Tandem axle means two axles spaced not less than 40 inches nor more than 96 inches apart having at least one common point.
