(a) From your understanding, when would you use each of the following simulation commands in LTspice? i. DC Operating Point ii. Transient iii. AC Analysis iv. DC Sweep

Solutions

Expert Solution

(i). DC Opetaing point: This is used to find the DC operating condition of the circuit. Suppose, if we have a non-linera circuit (made up of non-linear elements like diodes, mosfets etc.), we can find the DC operating conditions (currents and voltages).

(ii) Transient: If we need to look at the output vs time. Say you have started the circuit at t=0 and your are interested to know the output at t=1ms; in such cases transient simulation can be used to plot the output vs time.

(iii) AC analysis: AC analysis is used to check the stability of the circuit by ploting bode plots (magnitude and the phase plots). You can also find bandwidth, phase margin, gain margin of the system.

(iv) DC Sweep: If you want to see the changes in your desired output as a function of some variable. This variable can be voltage source, resistor, capacitor or any other DC parameter of circuit. We can use DC sweep to observe in such cases.
