There are concrete structures and projects in the
following, try to select the proper cement and explain the
reason
1/Cast in place beam
2/The prefabricate parta conserved by autoclave method
3/Urgent salvaging projects or urgent military engineering
4/Mass concrete dam and the Foundation fpr large scale
equipment
5/The underground Engineering that can be corroded by sulfate
6/The basis for blast furnace
Before we begin with the solution,
let's discuss ordinary portland cement(OPC) it is generalized by its characteristic property which depends on Bogues Compounds.
Classification as:-
Tricalcium Silicate(C3S ) - Responsible for early strength of concrete
Dia calcium silicate(C2S ) - Low heat property
Tri Calcium Aluminate(C3A) - Monitor Cement and Shrinkage Setting time
Tetra calcium Alumino Ferrate(C4AF) - Strength contribution almost very low but control setting time.
*Different types of cement is a mixture of Bogues Compounds
proportion concerning there use.
1. For Cast in place beam
Cast-in-place concrete, also known as poured-in-place concrete, is a concreting process carried out in situ
:-Type I or ordinary Portland cement
This form of cement is available almost anywhere and this cement meets the requirement of ordinary reinforced concrete structure.
2.For the prefabricate parts conserved by autoclave method
:- Slag cement
this type of cement slow setting and hardening and low early strength along with high later strength which can be best suitable for prefabricating parts
3. For urgent salvaging projects or urgent military engineering
whenever work is related to military engineering it becomes an emergency project, where completion time is not like the ordinary project, hence
:-Portland cement
which helps structure for fast hardening rate with high cement.
4. For mass concrete dam and the Foundation for large scale equipment
as name suggest mass, where the concrete requirement is huge ultimately which causes high heat of hydration, hence
:-Type IV or Low heat portland cement or masonry cement
in this type of concrete, the amount and rate of heat generation must be kept to a minimum.
5.For the underground Engineering that can be corroded by sulfate
:-Sulfate resistant portland cement or portland cement
It is used in coastal areas and aquatic habitats, or where sulfates are likely to influence the structure
6.For the basis for blast furnace
Blast applies to "led" or supplied by the combustion air above ambient pressure, for such cases
:-blast furnace cement (Standard EN 197-1:2000)
this type of cement meets all the requirements to make durable concrete
