a.

FA will increase workability due to spherical shaped particles travelling further distance

b.

Expert Solution

Workability : ease of doing work with concerete is called it's workability.

(Note : This is not specified in this question weather this is a multiple choice question or descriptive question, still I will explain you factors affecting workability thus you will be able to conclude answer. Otherwise upload question again with more specific data and I will be happy to help)

A. Fine particles increase workability due to their spherical shaped particles acts as ball bearing between coarse aggregates of cement making movement between them more smooth. Thus fine aggregates like fly ash, blast furnace slag etc. Are added in concrete to increase workability and lower heat of hydration of cement.

Note : I wrote about fine particles not about fine aggregates.

B) If fine particle has same density as that of remain component, It would not result in good workability because friction between particles will increase due to high normal reaction of weight.

C) angular shaped particles (in LH Cement) has low workability due to increase surface area of angular shaped particles. Thus use of angular particles in cement/ concrete will decrease its workability.

D) If angular particles travels further distance, this show thier increased mobility i.e. increased workability.

Other factors which affects workability :

Temperature, water cement ratio and admixtures.

If you want more precise information, type it in comments, I will be happy to help.

Thanks.
