My Plate tool helps in maintaining healthy eating habit with respect to nutritional values of the food items thus intake of optimum calories to maintain healthy life style.

There are certain recommendations to maintain a healthy life style including

1. Intake of half plate of fruits and vegetables

2. Shift to low fat or null fat milk items and yogurts.

3. Protein intake routine must be varied.

4. Whole grain must be opt for.

5. Varying the vegetables in each plate regularly.

6. Eat beverages with low sodium and saturated fat

7. Focus must be on whole fruit items.

a. Calories: For an adult people my plate tool recommend intake of 2500 calories per day.

b. Serving size: A “serving size” denotes a standard amount/volume of a food items or drinks i.e a cup or an ounce.

According to my plate tool the serving size of an adult people must comprises

1. Fruits- 2 standard cups

2. Vegetables- 2½ cups

3. Dairy- 4 cups

4. Protein- 5½ ounces

5. Grains- 7 ounces

3. Whole grains: 7 ounces including 2 slice bread or 1 ounce ready to eat cereals or ½ cup cooked rice or pasta

4. Proteins: 5½ ounces including cooked meats, poultry or seafood or 1 Tbsp peanut butter or ½ ounce seeds or nuts.

5. Dairy products: 3 cups including 1 cup of milk, 1 cup of yogurt or 2 ounces cheese or soy beverages
