What cultural values and myths prevent society from understanding why women stay with their abusive mates? Can there be changed? If so, how could that be accomplished? Likewise, what cultural values and myths prevent men from reporting abuse at the hands of their partners? Can these societal norms be changed? If so, how could that be accomplished?
Cultural values and myths are deeply imbedded in our lives when it comes to understanding of women role in the society. we have every have or have not when it comes to women defined by the society based on cultural values and myths. Marriage is known to be a strong bond between a male and female which emphasis on to stay with that bond in every situation but sometimes when women face violence in terms of verbal, physical or emotional society still tends to believe in adjustment with the male partner regardless of women situation. Society generally believe in women to try every adjustment with male partner.
Yes, such myths and values can be changed and are changing in the present situation, with a positive effect of women empowerment and societal awareness about gender equality we have now certain measures to minimise such case of any physical or verbal violence by a mate.Society now is more liberal and sensitive towards this issue.
Mens also do not report cases of abuse by their partners as society feels man to have a dominative nature in a relationship when it comes to marriage. When they face any kind of abuse from their parents society generally feels such mens as weak and not a sign of masculinity which lead to lack of self in males.
These societal norms are changeable but it will take time for the society to adopt.mostly we see a patriarchal society where mens seems to have a bigger role in family so it will not change in short time but will take continuous effort supplemented by change in role of women in societal view.
