You are the head of a computer science department at a university. Your boss (a “dean”) wants you to find a way to tweak your curriculum so undergrads are more likely to choose your department for their major. How would you respond in a way that islegal, moral, and ethical?
Being the head of a computer science department at a university, I will show professional attitude. The responsibility is to find a way to tweak computer science curriculum so as to attract more undergraduate students and it should be done by behaving ethically. I'll deal the matter with honesty and confidence.
There are a few approaches that can be followed in this situation. I would follow the theoretical approach and perform the research (by reading existing research) on the requirements and will see what can be done to improve the curriculum. I would also seek the guidance of my peer professors by keeping the things professional. After the requirement analysis, I would share my findings with my boss and start making the action plans after getting the feedbacks from my boss and peers. I would try to resolve any conflicts. If I'm allowed by laws, I'll make a team of professionals and execute the plan of action. I would open to take feedbacks from anyone involved or affected by this decision, including the students.
Most importantly, I would follow all the laws and work ethically during the whole process.
