The creation of the US Interstate Highway System was the single action that most changed the face of America after the World War II.
T or F
True.
The former president of America Dwight D. Eisenhower once quoted that "More than any single action by the government since the end of the war, this one would change the face of America.” Even though this is a topic of debate, but it is a fact that the US Interstate Highway system most changed the face of America after the World War II.
The Interstate Highway system was the biggest public work project which came as a result of Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956. The cost of construction of the Interstate Highway System was approximately $114 billion (at the time when construction took place). The construction of Interstate Highway created more jobs, motorcar industry developed, other infrastructure developed and changed the whole phase of the US. The Interstate also caused a major shift of population from the older cities to other parts of US.
It should be noted that there are almost 250 million vehicles running in the United States ,i.e equal to one vehicle per person. The major factor which caused this was the Interstate highway which runs 48,191 miles .
