Lessons Learned showcases how different practices followed to carry out a project can be used to gain experience and knowledge from them and later used as reference when a similar situation or circumstances arise.
This is the perfect example of the Tried and Tested method. Wherein the mistakes from the past help us take the right step in the future whenever we are stuck in a similar situation. It also lays emphasis on how the perfect sets of policies and guidelines can be formulated by learning from the experience rather than making assumptions, or going by theoretical knowledge of the industry.
Thus " Lessons Learned" is used to inform projects on the right path and direction to achieve goals and mission, based on knowledge gained from past experience.
Lesson Learned is Predecessor of the procedure followed in " Closing Project", as well as the follow up of it, wherein a perfect structure is followed to close out the project after checking everything has been completed and proper handoffs can be done along with documentation of each incident and task performed during the Project is done. This documentation of each project is used as Lesson Learned so that other projects can be performed in an improved way if similar situations arise in the new projects as well.
