Google owns both Android OS as well as the Chrome OS. The first commercial Android based device was launched on September 2008 whereas the first Chrome OS based device was launched in May 2011 which was a laptop known as Chromebook. Chrome OS and android may merge one day.

Now we will discuss the similarities and differences between the Android and Chrome OS.

Similarities of Android and Chrome OS -

  • First, they both are designed by Google
  • Both are based on linux-kernel based operating system
  • Both are optimized for touch.

Difference between the Android and Chrome OS -

ANDROID OS CHROME OS

It is mainly created for smartphones and tablet devices.

It is mainly created for netbooks.
It has well designed and developed graphical user interface. It has very simple interface.
It is a mobile operating system, and is a modified linux- kernel based OS. It is a linux kernel based operating system, which has chrome browser like user interface.
It can run android applications. Android apps can't run in Chrome OS locally on the device.
