Importance of Desnsity-Stregnth ratio :
It is used as a parameter to comapare the various materials available for the construction purpose and to find out which construction material is better to use according to our situation and which is not.
Engineering always suggest to go for a material with high specific stregnth instead of low mass density. So the ratio tells us about the stregnth per unit density hence it gives us ease of selecting material based on stregnth per unit amount of material to be used.
Its effect on the properties of the structure
1. Stregnth is toward higher side.
2. Self weight of the structure is toward lower side.
3. By adopting higher stregnth to density ratio. The density is low and hence the concrete shows high stregnth, good workability and steel shows high corrosion resistance, fatigue resistance, high crack resistance, and ability to withstand moderately high temperatures without creeping and hence a well designed and efficient structure design overall.
