Which cultural influence do you feel will constitute the greatest challenge for management as it relates to maintaining a functional organizational culture? Why do you think so? Generational change (millennials)
Artificial Intelligence (robotics)
eCommerce (the age of the Internet)
Globalization (technology-driven solutions)
I believe, it is Globalization that is posing the greatest challenge for management because Internet technology has miraculously strengthened the global communication channels in the process of globalization. This technology-driven solutions have further given rise to the concept of Knowledge Management which is a process of organizing and distributing an organization’s collective wisdom so the right information gets to the right people at the right time. It is essential because intellectual assets are as important as physical assets in any Functional Organization. Hence, it is important because when the employees quit their Organizations, their knowledge and experience goes with them therefore a healthy Knowledge management program shall establish a system in place that reduces redundancy and makes the organization more efficient. Outsourcing globally has also become evident that has culturally influenced the functions of an Organization too in a significant way.
In this regard, when the Corporations set on the global front due to globalization, they intend to undergo change to adjust reasonably with the local culture of the host country. However, the functional organization in such case gets impacted due to the resistance of the employees who may end up in the reduction of the employee base. In some other cases, the employees many need the help and support of the Knowledge management tools to help update themselves and learn in a constructive way to support the Functional Organization’s entry globally. Therefore, I feel that Globalization constitute the greatest challenge for management as it relates to maintaining a functional organizational culture.
