Explain the epidemiological chain of transmission of this infection with a schematic diagram.

Solutions

Expert Solution

ANSWER :

1.Infectious agent :

  • It is the microorganism that causes the disease.
  • Example : Bacteria , virus, parasite etc

2.Reservoir :

  • It is the source required for the pathogen to survive.
  • Example : soil , water , person , animal etc

3.Portal of exit :

  • It is the portal of exit required for the infectious agent to leave the reservoir or source.
  • Example : If reservoir is person then portal of exit can be blood , secretions, saliva etc.

4.Means of transport :

  • Direct transmission by close contact or direct physical contact.
  • Indirect transmission by any vector.

5.Portal of entry :

  • Infectious agent can enters the host by ingestion, penetration or inhalation.

6.Susceptible host :

  • Strength of immune system of the host decides the severity or infection.
  • Increased multiplication rate of the microorganism leads to severe infection.
