Assuming you observe an array of negatively charged electrons shooting vertically upward. To redirect tjis electron array toward to your left by a screen of magnetic field, what direction should the magnetic field point to?

Solutions

Expert Solution

We use Fleming's left hand rule (FLR) to find force to find the effect of current in a magnetic field( when we have current and magnetic field)

Fleming's right hand rule (FRR) is used to find force on a charged particle in a magnetic field (,i.e, velocity and magnetic field is given)

The direction of magnetic field is Positive z-direction, i.e, if velocity and force are in the plane of paper then the magnetic field will be perpendicular to the plane of paper directed outwards

Free Response: An electron is fired at a negatively charged infinite plane with an initial speed of 6.5 × 107 m/s. The plane has a surface charge density of σ = −2.0 µC/m2 . a) How far does the electron travel before it stops? b) Which point is at a higher potential, the starting point or the ending point? c) Do a) and b) for a proton with the same initial speed fired at a positively charged plane with a...

An electron microscope focuses electrons through magnetic lenses to observe objects at higher magnification than is possible with a light microscope. For any microscope, the smallest object that can be observed is one-half the wavelength of the radiation used. Thus, for example, the smallest object that can be observed with light of 400.0 nm is 2.00 ×10−7 m. (a) What is the smallest object observable with an electron microscope using electrons moving at 8.70 ×104 m/s? (b) At 1.40 ×...
