Pfizer is a pharmaceutical giant headquartered in New York City, USA and one of the largest pharma companies in the world.
It is involved in developing vaccinations and medicines in various fields such as cardiology, oncology etc.It is essentially a research based company which has become highly diversified because of acquiring similar companies over the years.
The company has a decentralized pattern of functional hierarchy where major power is with the top level and the rest is delegated to middle and lower levels as follows:
Top level - CEO is the highest in the organization responsible for formulating goals, objectives and taking decisions who is assisted by a Board of Directors constituted by heads of each department in the organization who have their own area of specialization. The CFO is also part of this level.
Middle level - Company employees act as bridge between workers and top level who are involved in executing objectives and goals set by top level in an effective and efficient manner.
Base level- It consists of workers, agents, assistants and base physicians who do not have decision making powers and completely follow instructions passed on to them. To ensure that their performance is productive, a credit system is followed by the top management.
The hierarchy of Pfizer is thus structured in the form of an inverted pyramid.
